What is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae Kwon Do, “the art of kicking and punching”, is a martial art that uses bare hands and feet as weapons. All students learn punches, blocks and self-defense techniques. Hyungs (forms) help develop balance, speed, focus, timing, endurance and power.
There are many benefits to learning Tae Kwon Do. Students are trained to the best of their ability. Beginning students vary in their physical abilities. Some are already in shape, while others may have limited flexibility and/or wish to lose some weight. Adults may start at any age! All that is expected is a willingness to try. Students learn how to effectively defend themselves , increase their physical and mental fitness and improve their balance and coordination. Students also learn patience and respect toward others and toward themselves. Tae Kwon Do is about living, not fighting.

Most people associate the concept of belts and ranks with Tae Kwon Do. Our belts reflect a member’s demonstrated level of competence. Each belt achieved is truly an accomplishment worthy of respect. The focus of Tae Kwon Do training is not just on the physical strength and growth but also on important personal skills that will help lead to personal success in life.
